I mix my own henna paste out of 3 organic ingredients, henna powder, lemon
juice, and eucalyptus oil.
Traditional Indian designs are applied topically to
the skin and allowed to dry. The paste stains the skin
and as it dries it flakes
off on its own, revealing the henna tattoo that will last anywhere between 1 - 2
weeks,
depending on the part of the body where it is applied. The most common
places I apply henna tattoos are the feet,
hands, and arms, as these areas seem
to hold the stain the best. Other areas used for mehndi are the belly and the
back. For a small design it takes about 15 minutes to apply, however, most
people prefer the 30 minute designs.
The most elaborate designs can take an hour
or two. Some people bring me designs to copy, but most choose a
pattern they
like out of a book of samples. Mehndi rates are: $1/minute

It is a great way to relax, but can also serve as a reminder of some
special event or occasion in one's life.
Some people enjoy receiving a henna
tattoo after their massage and they find that whenever they look at the design
it reminds them of the peace and relaxation from their massage... prolonging the
benefits of the bodywork.
Another way to experience mehndi is through a Mehndi
Massage! In such circumstances I provide the massage while
an assistant applies
the henna tattoo. Emily Kepley is the mehndi artist that typically accompanies
me. She is a talented
artist and holds a degree in graphic design from
WCU. Another use for mehndi is to honor someone during baby showers,
blessingways, sweet sixteen parties, and/or batchellorette parties. Maternal
women enjoy having their bellies painted.
Henna is non-toxic and has calming,
cooling properties.
